You can use this forum to make suggestions for the construction skill.
I was thinking of suggesting some constructable items, but then thought people might come up with a lot of ideas based around this concept, so figured I would make a thread out of it!
Suggestions
Doors - ibazly Melee Weapons out of Imrpovised Weapon Stacks - ibazly Spiked Fortification - zebiolizard2 Weak Wall - zebiolizard2 Basement Hatch - zebiolizard2 Whittling Planks Into Improvised Weapons - zebiolizard2 Chests - zebiolizard2 Dummy - Aaron Beds - toupz Wooden Cots - toupz Crates - toupz Signs - toupz Stool/Chair - toupz

Some of the ideas I have with regaurds to this:
Being able to construct doors. I think this would make base designs interesting, as often bases merely have "openings" and there are currently only a few ways of dealing with this effectively.
Being able to take improvised weapons, and construct a stack into a melee weapon. Basically, this would allow you to take two improvised spears, and using the construction skill perhaps a wooden plank) make a legit spear.

Spiked Fortifications: Requires improvised spikes/spears/pokey things, attach to fortifications. Harms undead that attack it.
Weak wall: (Once walls someday decay or get broken, if they ever do)
Basement hatch: Like a door, but covers the basement.
Able to whittle planks into improvised weapons.
Chest: Lets you lock things up where survivors can't reach them (without breaking em)

Dummy: Makes a fake statue sorta thing out of planks. Distracts shamblers and skeles. Requires 5 planks, 2 carpentry min. 4 planks with 3 carpentry.

- Being able to construct beds, or wooden bunks to sleep on that act like beds. - Homemade crates (Could act as barricades, pushing em around)
- Wooden signs (Hell yes, write what we want on the sign could be cool if making a survivor base and naming it idk, could push sign around and destroy it easily
- Homemade stool/chair, for look and weak barricade we can '' Jump '' on
Just some ideas hope they not too bad

Currently, Carpentry is a skill that adds a whole system to the game. Compared to other skills, this is the most fun to level up. Personally id like to see Carpentry in its own category, as a skill that is leveled up with each use.
Constructable items: You need enough material in your inventory, it may or it may not require another item. By material I mean the usual wooden plank or a new metal plate. This plate will be stackable up to 3. Items constructed with metal plates are stronger and heavier than items constructed with wooden planks.
Cover (Small fortification) -transparent -can be jumped -can be pushed -uses 2 materials (objects that can be jumped on, give a small protection bonus while in the same tile of the object)
Gate (Large fortification) -cannot be moved -blocks movement -transparent -strong -uses 4 materials
Wall (Large fortification) -cannot be moved -blocks movement -opaque -stronger -uses 6 materials
Ladder(Small fortification?)(this would be useful only if second floors are implemented or if stairs can be destroyed) -can be pushed -can be picked up -allows you to go to 2nd floors -uses 3 material

There are some great ideas in this thread. I like the idea of being able to build more. I don't know about chests, I kind of feel you should have to build your own fortification or find a hiding place and barricade a stash there. It makes it more effort but feels more true to the game to me.

I don't think you'd have time to craft a chest in a zombie apocalypse lol, it's probably easier to build crappy wooden walls than craft a chest

the crafting chest idea is bad,why not simply FIND a chest and use them to put objects into it?

Something to store objects in would be good overall, but it's more rule of fun generally. Since you might never find anything to store objects again.

Unbreakable (Or at least hard to break) Barricade:- - Lots of wood / Concrete / Stone of some sort. - Can only be broken with continued, directed effort (Axe / Jackhammer) - Allows forts that your average zombie can't tear through.
Gunhole:- - Made from a bit of wood. - Allows line of sight, gunfire etc, but doesn't allow people to climb across it. - Allows players to build fortifications that they can shoot out of and pick off zombies without leaving massive gaps.

I think the gun hole idea is great. I would also like a see-through unmovable fortification.

This isn't something we could construct but i'd love to see a backpack we can equip that adds two slots of inventory somewher on the screen, backpack slots.

Aye, a barricade which requires real effort to breach would be nice. If I sink enough time and effort into my chosen fort, it should be damn near impenetrable. I'd also suggest: Spiked pitfall: -Requires but does not destroy a shovel -4 planks -2 improvised spears When stepped on by a sufficiently heavy zombie (everything but skeletons) it will cause the zombie to fall into the pit and die. Must be manually cleared by hand for roughly the same amount of effort as it takes to move a car. Basically this is designed to stop those lone stupid zombie masters from completely ruining your defenses while you are gone. Wedge: -Requires, but does not consume, a hammer of some sort. -3 planks The wedge allows you to secure an object to the ground. Whether it be a shelf or a car. I've yet to figure out what moves cars, but something is doing so and it is annoying as hell. I come back to find my entire fort destroyed simply because a zombie managed to get in and decided, randomly, to destroy all the shelves. Spikes: *Oops, didn't notice this was already suggested. My apologies.* -3 improvised spears Attach to large barricades to cause damage to anything which attacks the barricade. Shotshell trap: -1 shotgun shell -1 improvised club When triggered it shoots the intruder for 20 damage. Not triggered by humans. Leaves club on the ground. Razor wire: -1 metal object. (Golfclub, knife, etc etc. IS consumed) Causes damage every turn any creature stands on it. Human or not. Cannot be attacked or destroyed but doesn't actually impede movement outside of dealing damage. Ballista: -8 planks -1 canned good (Can provides the trigger mechanism while the contents of the can make the planks flexible) Stationary. Consumes one improvised spear per shot and deals instant death to all but the toughest of opponent.
