A dojo. At the beginning of the game, starts with a couple of students with Martial Arts and maybe another melee-related skill, an instructor with additional skills and a level or two of Leadership, and - I would suggest - a small cache of exotic weapons (e.g. nunchucks, bõ staff) that have modest attributes but have the special quality of having their bonuses stack with the Martial Arts skill.

And some more building types!
Salvation army buildings, Red cross buildings/supply tents.
And now to elaborate some of my previous building types
Bank: This place would have various random doodads around like flashlights, and various other misc inventory stuff, but the main part would be the bank vault at the back, a heavily armored safe one can rig to close from the inside and be quite safe, as the large door is very well protected against attacks.
Fort: This would be the base of the national guard, rather then appearing from nowhere this would be the beginning area for the National guard. It would be a large fort, with about nine buildings inside of it with only one entrance. Each building would be able to be closed off and defended incase of a zombie attack, with walls around the entire parameter of the base. Not to mention until the fort falls, this place would be the main area for supply depots.
These buildings would be generally like
Fort Gatehouse: The entrance to the fort, this building is generally what keeps the zombies out as there would be National guard patrolling inside here, shooting zombies from the windows
Fort Armory: Contains a good bit of weaponry and the like, it's an armory afterall.
Fort Barracks: Contains beds, and various others ammenties to make living worth living.
Fort Vehicle Depot: For now, does nothing, should Vehicle be added later they can send out supply runs to help survivors, has a few minor Misc tools within it.
Fort Hospital: Medical supplies, and the like, has fort doctors to patch you up.
Fort Mess hall: Food, mostly rations and the like, may have a small farm out back for fresher food. (I know the fort near my city has a small farm in case of needing extra supplies in case they are sieged.
Fort Administration office: For the higher ranking leaders of the national guard.
Kind of all I can think of for now.

I think using a bank safe as hideout is a bad idea as oxygen would soon run out of the place but omg a bank would rock all your ideas are cool too zebio

One thing I'd like to see is more realistic homes/apartments/rental homes later on. Seriously, who puts a stairwell to the basement in the middle of a room, Why is there fourteen doors leading out, and each building area interconnected and unlocked to everyone!? An apartment/motel should be the easier way of showing things off, where you have each room seperate, but leading out into a hallway...And since you live there, you can actually LOCK THE DOORS! Homes would be 1-4 "blocks" big, bigger homes up to 8-12 depending on richness, and not containing a crapload of random people and beds everywhere. (A bed in next to the front door..Really?) Apartments would be varied. Generally having up to 2-12 blocks that contain people. (Rooms can be shared between people, so two to four beds in some rooms rather then one, this is the amount of rooms that would contain people, not the amount of blocks it overall has.) Containing many people. Maximum room size block would be about 2-4 block rooms Motels are rather similar, but have at max 2 beds per room, and being only one block wide. (Come on down to the No-tell motel! )

They also do need a national guard post to over run.

Staples folk, staples! *Points up at his National Guard Fort/Army fort up above* Malls would be good though Would be kinda cool if National guard, if your helping them and they are doing well, to setup minor posts within buildings, or to have specific buildings near them. Area's for supply drops to directly land near them.

NOTE: this are edited screenshots! Just teasing what some ideas would look like. Church. Mall. Notice its a new type of district. This district is like a general district, a bit of everything. You will have to imagine the inside of the building, sorry. Rural district. Its similar to green district, but this one is outside the city. Changing a few things, opening up new possibilities. The situation in this screen turned to be pretty intense Custom houses....

Little nitpick, churches usually have three or less door's, The big cathedrals are the one's with multiplex 5+ door amounts. Those houses though, just awesome
