This strategy is what I used last game, and i almost always use some variant of it depending on how quick i can get all the items i need.
1.Get tons of food 2.Stash it in a basement 3.Raid nearby stores(preferably gun stores) 4.Stockpile guns and ammo 5.Sleep/Raid stores 6.Murder innocents for their foods 7.Die to huge zombie flood in my basement fortress.
Thats about the summary of every game I play... Any tips on how to remove step 7?

Okay my current game is going rather well using this strategy! Got some armor and shotguns and such and have managed to find several food stores and gun stores. Made it to day 7, now just need to get enough ammo and food to make it another week or so.

Go out from time to time and kill random roaming zombies to keep the zombie population down a bit Get several bases! Eat groceries... Fresh, expired.. spoiled.. and stock up on canned food. (Spare the canned food untill you run out of groceries~) Find a medical store and get some stench killer.. Use them before entering you base(s) Use cars to block roads. Regular zombies cannot follow you as they cannot climb over cars, but zombie masters can push cars out of the way. Otherwise, my critique of your strategy... I've gotten to day 24 without murdering a single person, even in defense, so I wonder what you are doing to be short on food such that you are driven to kill. Perhaps I will offer my own strategy, and you can take from it what you will, as a reflection on your own and with ideas to tinker with. What I usually do on day 1 is get myself to a shopping district, and block-off (by pushing shelves in the doorway) all supermarket/food stores I can find. Then I get Leadership, because having another 7 inventory slots is vital in making raids effective, and raid gun-stores and kill zombies to raise trust. Once they're under my control (I usually get 2 followers if I can), I make massive food-hauls to a single base, which is usually a non-supermarket/food store. Something like a gun store, or a medical supply store make excellent locations, and I've been toying with the idea of a warehouse base because of their metal doors. At this point when I've got food for myself and followers for weeks, medical supplies and ammunition, I focus on barricading. Typically one person stays behind to defend the goods, while the other comes with me on the raids. We typically move through the sewers if possible (less likely to run into hungry civilians), and travel with a standard loadout (1 melee weapon, 1 medkit, 1 firearm, and 1 box of ammo (and 1 body armor, if available)) among each of us. I also do what I can to keep survivors nearby, and generally within the district, alive. If I hear bikers coming through, all three of us will go out to hunt them. If we hear fighting outside of our safehouse, we'll step outside to help. This is because the presence of other survivors gives all the nastier things (bikers, gangsters, zombies) a buffer to go through before they can get right to you. Since food can't be grown, survival is wholly dependent on who gets the army supply drops. There is a careful line to walk here, as more hands means more rations to bring home, but it also means more mouths to feed each day. But if you can manage a group well, I've managed to keep myself and 4 Survivors alive for two weeks, within a fort in the center of the map. Come to think of it, I think being in the center of the map is what helped that base the most. You stand the best chance to be exposed to anything that passes through, but it places you the shortest distance from any army drop location. Also if you're running around looking for food, but can't find any, grab whatever else you can bring. You can just drop it if you do find food, but more importantly you might be able to trade it with NPCs for food.

The leadership idea sounds pretty soild, but would it be better to setup somewhere with one entrance or with more than one?

Depends on how you want to play the odds.
Two entrances means that if you're attacked from one side, you can retreat through the other. However it also means you will be twice as exposed to attacks.
I prefer to use a base with one entrance, and then isolate it further out. So once the door to the store is crammed with shelves, I make walls of vehicles in the street to isolate my store, reinforced with barricades. Scent killer can also keep you surprisingly safe, but it is hard to have any in the late-game.
