First off, amazing game- never thought I'd find a simulator of slowly dying from starvation in a grocery store to be so much damn fun (oh and the zombies).
There's just one thing that keeps me from playing through multiple characters obsessively: the fact every game eventually leads to your demise.
I understand the game has some ways to go, but why not add in a placeholder "win" condition while the main quest(s) or plot get developed?
Anyway here's my half baked Idea:
After a long period of time (say 100ish days) messages start falling with supply drops, giving a time and location for a helicopter pickup.
You'd have to get there and camp out along with any other NPC's who come across the messages and are in the grid (imagine how fubar having a bunch of people camped out in the open could get).
The time given wouldn't be exact, it could be anywhere from 8am-8pm the heli shows up, and it wouldn't stay long. If you missed the window you'd be shit out of luck for another week or two.
Extra fun would be if they don't let you in if your infection rate is too high, there are zombies nearby, or you're clearly insane.
So there's my idea. I'd want the chance for "survival" to be incredibly small, but just having that distant hope would really improve the game, for me anyhow. Oh and I'm just suggesting this as a place holder till plot is developed, or one of the endings if there end up being multiple.
What do you guys think?

I was agreeing until i hit the "Bunch of people camping along"
If that would be the case, it would require Higher amounts of zombies to attack that location, and the zombies actually go after the area that supposedly is the Evacuation point, i mean, if you raise Leadership to 5, recruit five 60+ day survivors, give them guns with enough ammunition, and the combination of high skill and numbers can run down even the most determined horde, now imagine more than 5 people and 100 days, even if this was out in the open and half of them brandishing golf clubs and baseball bats and shovels and other melee shit, a large ZM group on the maximum 200 Zombies won't fare better then one or two dead survivors

Yeah, when I pictured the group I imagined NPCs that were starving, wounded, etc. all trying to co-exist and maybe falling apart/attacking each other while they waited. You'd have to restore order by killing the troublemakers, bringing extra supplies for them, etc. while fending off zombies.
You make a good point with the companions though, as it's pretty easy to grab whoever and at day 100+ only the most hardened are left.
So what if the noise from the chopper arriving triggers an invasion (like at midnight but worse) with all the zombies locked in on the evac zone. You'd need to defeat them before the chopper lands/lets you in.
I pictured it just dropping a rope or something, so it would be easier to implement, but maybe they just don't drop the rope until the zones clear for gameplays sake.
