There have been a lot of suggestions that involve fire in some way. Molotov cocktails (new thrown weapon, created by combining found objects), fire extinguishers, destructible environments (fires would spread, furniture would burn, boards would burn faster and help to spread flames). I haven't seen anything suggesting the ideas all be pooled and pushed into one big update. Fire could form the basis of a new version, the way trust and murder did.
Entering a burning tile would set you on fire. You could put out the fire using a fire extinguisher, or you could roll on the ground (not always successful, maybe based on Agility; undeads would have no way of putting themselves out). Fire would spread to different objects and actors based on different percentage chances (e.g., people light up easiest, then boards, then furniture, then trees, then buildings). Buildings that have been on fire X turns would burn down, being replaced by rubble or char. Some buildings, like the hospital, would be fireproof; but the furniture could still burn.
Pushing an actor into a burning tile would be a new tactic. You could even set a hoard of zombies on fire this way, as there'd be a chance that any actor standing adjacent to the burning zombie might catch on fire. When a burning actor melee attacks, there's a greater chance its target will catch on fire.
Fireman NPCs could go around putting out fires, dropping fire extinguishers and axes when killed. If enough tiles catch on fire, it could generate a Fire Brigade event. This might even become a player strategy, as starting fires could attract more living actors.
Low level zombies flee from fire?
Torches.
Burning away tiles may reveal hidden areas. For example, a manhole hidden under trees in the park.
Clothing would burn up after X turns on fire. With toughness maxed out, you could set yourself on fire and push through a hoard of zombies to burn them up; but it would destroy your clothes and many items you're carrying. Might want to tweak the values to discourage that tactic of deliberately setting yourself on fire, LOL.
EDIT: Someone suggested flamethrowers. Maybe those could be used by THOSE GUYS.
Refrigerators as containers was also suggested. Maybe make refrigerators flameproof, so they'd be immediately useful for storing perishable items.
