Here is a trio of item and object suggestions.
Sleeping Bags Moving an entire bed is rather unsafe and inconvenient during an zombie apocalypse, and you can't move a bed to an stronghold in a different district. An sleeping bag is an realistic means for getting an nice spot to sleep on. Perhaps they can be most prevalent in sporting goods stores? I think that dropping one onto the ground should set it up for use.
Vending Machines These objects store an amount of food and drinks that can be obtained. Breaking open the machine would reveal the contents, but it would also set off an alarm that would attract unwanted attention. Most useful in the early game when undead are rare, and humans are scrambling to collect some food. Likely to found in front of stores, inside of malls, public buildings, and parks.
Locks These allow a human to safeguard some things by preventing easy access. These can lock doors, and change barricades or fortifications into "secured doors". Effectively the same as barricading a door, but allows it to be opened by a human and his/her followers that knows the code. A combination lock would require trial and error to open if you don't know the code, which may take a considerable amount of time. Reincarnation prevents remembering the code, unless the "Reincarnated Memories" option is "ON".
