Hey there! Found ppl talking about this game on bay12 a couple of days ago and in these days I've practically done nothing except playing it ;D got a couple of famous new games sitting on my desk unplayed, because... there's a zombie apocalypse, no time to play!!
Really, great job by the Author. I like just everything about it, so if I dare sharing an idea that crossed my mind, it's just because of my huge appreciation to the game
Whenever I finish a fight in the game, the only thing that I want to do is just to close myself into some store and sleep (camping?). Hardy will do the rest. Really, being a Medic looks hardly useful, it's better for your health to be a homeless man used to sleep on concrete ( ;D ), and that doesn't sound about right in a zombie apocalypse.
Also, what is the best moment in zombie movies? Well, sometimes ppl are just overpowered by the zombies and eaten alive. But the great moment is when someone is bitten by a zombie and left alive. And then??? OMG will he become a zombie?? is there an antidote? We gotta rush to the hospital (or to the bad guys' offices), search for it, or our friend will die... He comes with us, but after some hours he's too ill to walk, we gotta leave him behind and then run to search for the antidote and when we've found it and we're running back to him we're continuously asking ourselves... have we made it in time? Or is he already... a zombie??
Or have we just shot him in the head, fearing that he would have become a soulless monster and kill us?
Well I think all those exciting moments of the movies and books, would be very simple to recreate in the game with a simple-to-implement mechanic which wouldn't probably take a lot of work, if the Author would like my idea
It would take to have all the zombies make a bit less pure fighting damage (like, 2 less points from the current setting) but then, every time a character takes damage, 3 points of his health bar become light green, no matter what armour he's wearing. When two hours pass, the first point becomes dark green. Another two hours, and that hit point is gone.
If he has even just one point of infection, sleeping will not heal him. Bandages will not cure him. Medikits don't cure him, unless he's a Medic (skill becomes more useful!!), in this case a medikit can cancel some points of green. If he has some red hitpoints, the infection will eventually wear off, but it will take time and leave him weak... But if he's full green? He knows he will die in hours! He's got to find a syringe of the antidote (stackable at 2 max, so you can't carry too many around), but it is so rare... only the hospital might have some. But there are rumors that there's much inside those well defended CHAR offices... maybe it's worth to assault one for your life?
This is all. But it would make for some very exciting moments in the game, I think.
1) Character is full green. He has to abandon his well defended grocery store and cross a couple of district to assault a CHAR office, or cross many more to reach the (now finally vital as it should be! ;D ) hospital...
2) The character's precious, trained-with-love follower is ill... and down to half his hitpoints! Will you put him out of his miseries (like in Romero's movies!) or will you try to save him? Kind-of-moral dilemmas!
Also, when a character is full green and down to 2 hitpoints, he could drop unconscious... He has now just 8 hours to live! The only actions you can do is to push him, and hand him some antidote... But did you leave him in the middle of the street to be a meal for the evil, or locked him into a store? Did you kill him because there was no more hope, or are you still trying to save him?
Hope to have given some decent ideas
Oh wait, a minor suggestion! If in the future the possibility of creating your own character is implemented, I think it would add to the enjoyement if the chosen character, if not already present to avoid the army of the clones, is added with his/her name and appearance to the next games as living NPCs. Who knows? Maybe playing as your girlfriend or best friends and meeting them in a following game would add to the immersion... trying to save them from an horde of zombies just for the sake of it, taking them as followers despite not-so-useful skills, the pleasure to kill them for food or when they've been zombified much better to do this for them and to them instead to some randomnamed npc
Thanks for reading! Best regards to everyone in the forum and expecially to the ingenious author
