I had an idea for how to make custom objects feasible, but it involves a series of features somewhat related to each other.
Part 1: SPAWN FLAGS:
Spawn location flags would be used to decide how items were spawned into the world, instead of purely being handled by the engine. An example in the weapon files would be:
"ID","NAME",...,"SPAWN"
"RANGED_PISTOL","pistol",...,"POL CIVGUN WSTASH"
The different tags would apply to different locations and NPC's to assign it to. Here are the tags I've thought of so far:
HOUSES: Map: Would spawn in houses in dressers and cabinets.
WSTASH: Map: Would spawn in basement weapon stashes found in some homes.
PARKS: Map: Would spawn in parks.
HOSPITAL: Map: Would spawn in the hospital dressers.
NPC: Random items in this catagory would be spawned in the inventories of doctors and nurses.
HOSTORAGE: Map: Would spawn in the hospital basement storage.
POL: Map: Would spawn in the police station armories.
NPC: Equipment with this tag would be given to officers (1 melee, 1 armor, etc.)
CHAR: Map: Would spawn in the CHAR offices.
NPC: Equipment with this tag would be given to CHAR guards (1 melee, 1 armor, etc.)
CUF: Map: Would spawn in the CUF.
NAT: NPC: Equipment with this tag would be given to national guards (1 weapon, 1 armor, etc.)
SUPDROP: Map: Would be spawned as part of supply drops.
THOSEGUYS: NPC: You know what this would mean.
(These two would be examples of the faction arguments I'll mention later)
BIKERS(HELL'S ANGELS/FREE SOULS): NPC: Would be spawned with bikers (of that faction if specified (Applies to all).)
GANGS(CRAPS/FLOODS) NPC: Would be spawned with gangstas.
CIVGUN: Map: Would spawn in civilian gun stores.
GROCERY: Map: Would spawn in grocery stores and fridges.
SPORT: Would spawn in sporting goods stores.
TOOL: Would spawn in hardware stores, sewer buildings, maintenance closets.
HUNT: Would spawn in hunting stores.
CUSTOMMOB1/CUSTOMSTORE1/etc.: Custom slots I'll elaborate on later.
