Keep playing and you'll learn how to survive. Its always hard in the beginning. Once you get the hang of it you'll be able to survive a couple of months.
Day one you raid the stores/police station for weapons and then go looking for food. The story is a dead end so not much point going into the deathtrap that is the char underground.

How do you open fridges? Also a better way to heal than rest multiple times? I am looking for med kit but inventory space kinda sucks (not hating just an ugggghhh )

You grab items from fridges/shelves by bumping into them. If no item appears over the fridge sprite, there's nothing inside.
First aid kits and bandages can be found in the pharmacies primarily around the shopping districts. In extreme cases, you may need to find supplies in the hospital.
The limited inventory system was used for a system similar to the 'Resident Evil' games. The point is to manage your limited supplies by deciding what's truly important. A heavy shooter would carry more ammo, while a melee fighter (or unlucky chap) might carry more first aid kits. One aspect you may want to invest in is building a safehouse. Simply barricade (with shelves or something) some store/basement/metro/etc. As long as you seal it every time you exit, you should be safe from stragglers. If you use furniture to barricade, it's handy to have some on both sides so you can seal it from either way.
