I would suggest "major tranquillizers". (In overdose: induce sleep. In moderation: reduce sanity damage from witnessing disturbing actions/events.)
Also: whatever converted the CHAR guards to not need to eat would be an interesting addition. (Retroactive continuity: this is a "safe" prototype treatment of whatever backfired as autocatalytic zombification. Still mentally impairing; losing the food clock in exchange for increased sanity loss and/or lower maximum sanity would be an interesting choice.)

I think CHAR's and the National Guard's lack of need of hunger is not from special equipment but from advanced extended training (Something you can't go around obtaining easily in the zombie apocalypse.) I suppose if there was any way to obtain it, it would be to keep yourself in near starving for a week or so until you become accustomed to the effects.

If they had Training that hardcore, they'd probably be immune to the effects of Morale and Insanity, i mean, you can't starve someone for weeks without them going crazy and eventually hardening them
Which means that if you want to make it "Accustomable", you'd also have to throw in Insane immunity. which kinda defeats the point of Sanity, No?

I suppose you're right. I think the best solution would be to give these special roles no immunity, but a lot of resistance skills. (Light Eater, Strong Psyche, etc.)

In general, Char would probably be pretty hardcore in their training, so giving them a TON of skills would work pretty well I would expect. And the potential of massive piles of drugs to help prevent loss of sanity/ease consciences after brutal massacres!
