I don't know if map generation is tied to the AI such that custom maps won't work. If it's possible, custom maps could open up a lot of mod possibilities (along with fun simulations/experiments). Examples of what could be done with it: roguesurvivor.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=sugs&thread=17&post=661With an expanded tileset, it would be possible to recreate many more environments. I'd like to play a game set at and around where I work, for example. This is only tangentially related, but a few non-random areas (or maybe several variants of each areas) could help with a storyline/endgame. The system of generating different types of districts may be enough--just add new districts for the new areas. Or, like the basements, new area types.

I like the custom map idea. I would love to see zombies invade my school!

It would be nice if we could edit our own buildings in a Map Editor. The buildings would be saved as a file in the documents folder.
Then, in a new game, during map generation, the game searches this folder for buildings that fit into a generated block.
I really like this idea. We could upload and share our buildings and tilesets. We could have a nice database =)

I'd love to download player-built maps and explore their cities and such ;D
That kinda ruins the replay value of having randomly generated city though, but i guess it would just be an option/editor program?

Not much as player-built maps, just random buildings taken from the documents folder.
It could be scaled, kinda like "how many custom buildings do you want?"
Also, when you create the building you've got to specify in what district is appearing, the minimum city size and district size it needs, etc. so as to maintain continuity with the rest of the generated map.

Hmm... I kind of see where you guys are going with this, having a database of player maps that can load, but I think a fully-feaured map editor could even allow for plots, or special characters, which would mean it should probably be intentionally loaded. It's hard to say how exactly it could work, but in my opinion having modding capabilities always makes a game better .
